Usa and the Philipines
After the Spanish-American war, the Filipinos were upset that they were not given the freedom promised to them by America. America was content with staying in the Phiilpines to have control in the Eastern hemisphere. They forced the natives to cooperate through the "water tourture" and building concentration camps. The Filipinos responeded by using guerilla warface against the soldiers. This lasted for a little more than a year, killing many soldiers, when all the Filipinos wanted was freedom.
Usa and Puerto Rico
This political cartoon shows USA handing Puerto Rico a "slice" of the American rights, labeled Insular Cases. The Insular cases were a decision made by the Supreme court, which decided that American rights and values did not all carry over to the territories. They might be subjected to American rule, by they did not enjoy all American rights, they only had a "peice" of the rights pie. It isn't until 1917 that full citizenship was given to Puerto Ricans.
